We've had a great time at Vacation Care so far. As we come to the end of the holidays, we have been looking back on what we have gotten up to...
Week 1
On Monday, we had Warrawong Sanctuary come to Eden Hills with a selection of native animals. These animals included a barn owl, 2 sugar gliders, a lizard and some snakes! The children got to hear some interesting facts about these animals, as well as the habitat around our school and what animals live in it. They also got to have a hands-on experience with the animals, which everyone enjoyed! We are really glad that we could help support Warrawong in reopening it's sancuary in Mylor.
On Tuesday, we went roller skating at the Blackwood Rec Centre. This is one of our most popular excursions, and the children had a great time yet again! We had wonderful weather, which meant we got to play on the playground at Karinya Reserve before we returned to OSHC.
Wednesday was a very active day, as we had Stay Active come along to help us get moving! We had a 'Minute to Win it' session, which involved lots of competitions and games. This program also taught the children coordination, balance, strength and how to be a good sportsperson.
On Thursday, we went to the Beach House in Glenelg. We got to spend 2 hours playing on the carousel, dodgem cars, mini golf and all sorts of arcade games! We had more great weather, which meant we got to have lunch and a play on the beach afterwards.
Friday saw us using our green thumbs, as it was gardening day! We made hairy heads out of stockings, sand and lawn seed, and refilled and replanted our vegetable garden.
Week 2
We spent Monday at Belair National Park, playing on the Adventure Playground. We were so lucky to have even more great weather, which meant that the children could run and play to their heart's content. The staff also accompanied some groups of children on a nature walk around the area.
Mobile Science came to Eden Hills on Tuesday, to teach us all about forces! It was so fascinating to learn about the way forces affect us in our daily lives. After seeing some of this in action, we got to have a go at making catapults and rockets!
We're so excited about the last few days of Vacation Care - on Thursday we will have a circus skills workshop, and on Friday we will be making slime!
Happy holidays,
Maya and the OSHC team
