1st November 2018

Welcome!

Was a massive couple of weeks we have had at OSHC. With two full weeks of vacation care, Spring Fair and the pupil free day.

In week one of vacation care we had so much fun playing games outside in the great weather and visited Hallett Cove conservation park. The staff appreciated how well the children all behaved at the beach, and thankfully it didn't rain.
The children did a great job cooking pizzas and making fruit kebabs in the kitchen for our healthy lunch and afternoon tea. The older children made some super yummy coconut and honey biscuits.
We had a ninja visit us the end the week who taught us some bullying defense tactics. In week two we had a long drive up to Chookalaroo Campground in Kuitpo, and it was totally worth it! The children enjoyed climbing the trees, jumping across the creek, roasting marshmallows and toast and a lucky few even saw a red fox.

After visiting the recycling plant at Wingfield on Wednesday we decided to make paper from recycled scraps.
The children added sparkles, flowers, herbs and old coloured paper to make some beautiful varied creations.

For our final day of vacation care we visited the museum in the city. The children loved this excursion especially after lunch when we rolled down the grass hill near Parliament house...until some of us got very itchy!

We enjoyed seeing so many familiar faces at the Spring Fair and we hope you all enjoyed the afternoon. The pupil free day the following Monday was great fun, we made some bee hotels. Bee hotel's encourage native bees to come into the garden.

Molly taught us all how to make some fantastic reusable bee wax wraps. They were very popular so we should have another opportunity to make some more in our next vacation care.

Again, a big thank you to all the children for their excellent behaviour over vacation care, looking forward to our next in December (not too long now!).

P.S. We have had a snake sighting in the school so be careful during this hot weather.

Thanks Tori and the OSHC team.

20th September 2018

Hi all!
Don't forget school holidays are fast approaching! Booking sheets can be found on the OSHC desk.

We really enjoyed helping the younger children getting ready for the disco last Thursday, and loved seeing how many children were ready to dance the night away. We have our own small disco every Thursday and love practicing our dance moves and singing along.

Regarding the news reports of needles being found in fruit - We wish to assure you that we inspect, wash and cut up all our fruit before serving. We believe we should continue to support our farmers whilst being diligent in our duty of care to your children.

Congratulations to the yellow team on winning this years Sports day held at Santos Stadium. We had a lot of exhausted kids on Wednesday afternoon and Thursday morning telling us about all the fun they had.

Thanks from Tori and the OSHC team.

7th August 2018

Over the past few weeks we have been striving to improve and change our recycling system here at OSHC. The senior students brought the issue up after watching the ABC program 'War on Waste' in their classrooms.

We have also been discussing the controversy surrounding the plastic bag ban in VIC, QLD & NSW.
We now have our own kerb-side recycling bin.

And are collecting our soft plastics to recycle.

If you have any questions about our recycling program or any suggestions please let us know!

Tori and the OSHC team.

31st July 2018

Welcome to Term 3!

We had a wonderful two weeks of vacation care. Highlights from the children were, having Kate from "Artful Place" visit us with her pottery wheel. The children were able to plan, design and create a clay animal, such as a clown-fish, dinosaur and snake. They were also able to use her pottery wheel to make a bowl.

The children's creations went with Kate to be fired in her kiln and have been returned to us to paint during OSHC.

We were also lucky with the weather and were able to catch the train to Mitcham Cinema to see 'The Incredibles 2'!
Dwayne Nelson, original member of the Adelaide 36's came to visit us again and taught us some new basketball skills and we played a big game of 'Poison' with him.

In our second week, we had an amazing disco where we freestyle danced and learnt new dance moves from YouTube tutorials.

Thanks to all that came along to Vacation Care over these weeks, we hope you enjoyed it as much as we did.

We have created a secret Facebook group (Parents and staff ONLY), invites have been sent to the email address parents provided when their child/ren were registered. If you have not received an invite and would like one, please speak to Dianne.

It is also important that you let us know when your child will be absent from OSHC, as we search for children who are on our list and have not shown up. If you let us know in the morning that your child will be away there will be no charge, otherwise it will be marked as an absence and fees will be charged.

We have also have a sizable pile of jumpers hanging up in our bag room if you are looking for a lost jumper.

Hopefully in the next coming days we will have a new playground to play on and have some new adventures!

Please read your Vacation Care programs carefully, as there are some days that have clothing/footwear requirements. We have several excursions that require children to wear shoes that are appropriate for walking, wet weather clothing/umbrellas, and PJ's (For PJ day!). Please ensure that your children's clothing and footwear comply with the requirements of the day, as it makes it difficult for them to fully participate in activities if they do not.

On each day we ask that you provide lots of snacks, as well as lunch on most days. We ask this because the children are often extremely active at OSHC, and that combined with long days means that they are very hungry! Please check what food is required for each day your children attend, and ensure their lunchbox is full.

Tori and the OSHC team.
